Cincinnati — Billy Price, a former first-round selection of the Bengals, announced his retirement on Saturday morning. Prior to the 2021 season, Price was traded to the Giants by Cincinnati, where he played for three seasons. In addition, he was a player for the Saints, Cowboys, Raiders, and Cardinals.
Due to health issues, the 29-year-old is retiring. In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bengals selected him with the 21st overall choice. “Everything can be taken away in the blink of an eye,” Price posted on Instagram. “I underwent emergency pulmonary embolism surgery on April 24th in order to remove a saddle clot that was invading my two lungs.” An spontaneous pulmonary embolism without any medical reason is scary for a 29-year-old in good health. Regretfully, I must announce my retirement from the NFL due to the extreme risk of internal bleeding when using blood thinners.” Though it’s bad that he had to give up football, it’s wonderful that he’s in good condition considering how frightening his circumstances were.
