The evidence is in the pudding, as Bulldogs legend Josh Reynolds has disclosed that not all players at Canterbury were prepared to put in the necessary effort and embrace Cameron Ciraldo’s demanding new system.
From his first to his second season in charge, Ciraldo made 11 changes to his team in an effort to instill changes in the dedication and ethos of the proud club.
Reynolds gave up his career last year in an altruistic move that allowed Toby Sexton to join the team, but he is aware of the standards Ciraldo has been working so hard to achieve.
It’s a brand-new system that’s tough, Reynolds said to Darcie McDonald on Fox League’s NRL podcast last year.

Regretfully, some guys didn’t enjoy putting in a lot of work, and that’s okay too. Sometimes, though, it’s just not the right spot for you. The Bulldogs have been built over many years and years and years of hard labor.
“Ciraldo recognizes that some of the Bulldogs’ alumni probably wouldn’t have played many first-grade games elsewhere, but they made careers out of it because they worked hard.” Thus, his system is ideal for us.

Reynolds clarified that Ciraldo’s defensive strategy relies on repetition in an attempt to plug any gaps that can arise from opponent tiredness and quick ruck pace.
“In other defensive systems, it’s about do your own work, you do your own wrestle and all that kind of stuff, but if you’re in the middle, it could be three times a set you have to fill holes,” Reynolds said.
